What is a Clever Bag?

​

A Clever Bag is a pumpkin shaped bag which cooks using zero energy, based on the old Hay Box cooking method. Haybox cooking can save energy, fuel and time. By using an insulating material, the food will continue to cook slowly in its own heat for several hours, until it is ready to eat. The thermal filling makes it a thermal cooking product, also known as fireless or retained heat cooking.

Each Clever Bag is handmade with love in the UK. They are made from deadstock materials which were destined for landfill, making it a sustainable product. (All materials used  are brand new. They are surplus to requirements).

How Do I Use a Clever Bag?

 

The basic principle is to boil the food for a short time in a pot with a tight-fitting lid, and place the pot straight into a Clever Bag to keep cooking,

Below is a step-by-step guide to using the Clever Bag:

​

• In the saucepan, bring the recipe ingredients up to the boil.

• Remove the saucepan from the hob / stove. Put the lid securely on the saucepan.

• Make sure you have your Clever Bag open and ready to put the saucepan into.

• Place a tea-towel at the bottom of your Clever Bag to capture any spillages.

• Place the saucepan into your Clever Bag.

• Put the ‘hat’ in place on top of the saucepan lid and tie the cord tightly (you don’t want to waste any heat.)

• Let your Clever Bag complete the cooking. (Cooking times are shown on the recipe cards).

• Open the Clever Bag and enjoy your meal!

What are the benefits of using a Clever Bag?

What is a Bowl Cosy?

The Bowl Cozy's are made with the remaining fabrics from the Clever Bags.  Nothing goes to waste at Clever Bags.

The Bowl Cozy acts like an oven glove and allows the user to remove the bowl of soup and take it straight to the table. They are microwave-safe, insulated bowl huggers.  

The Bowl Cosy stops you from burning your fingers/hands on hot bowls. Your food gets hot, but the Bowl Cozy does not. Also, they can be used on bowls that are cold to the touch e.g. ice cream. They are oven gloves re-designed to be more practical.

How do I use a Bowl Cosy?

​

• Place your bowl of food e.g soup or porridge into the Bowl Cozy. Make certain to use the correct size for the bowl/plate.

• Place the Bowl Cozy and the bowl / plate of food into the microwave. Use the correct setting and timing.

• Remove from the microwave. DO NOT remove the bowl/plate from the Bowl Cozy.

• As always, take caution with hot food/liquid.

• Take to table and enjoy your food. (Do not take the pottery bowl out of the Bowl Cozy after it has been microwaved. That defeats the object).

What is a Bread Blanket?

How do you keep bread warm during a meal? Please use one of our beautiful and practical Bread Blankets.

​

A Bread Blanket is shaped like an envelope. It will keep your bread, toast, buns, pizza etc. warm whilst you enjoy your meal. Our Bread Blanket is sold in one size, on the principle that ’What will hold a lot, will hold a little.’

How do I use a Bread Blanket?

To keep your (already warm) bread, rolls, naan, dry toast, pitta etc., and let’s not forget your already baked pizza, nice and warm whilst you enjoy your food, follow the instructions below: 

• Take a bowl, plate or a breadbasket and place the Bread Blanket into it.

• Then put your warm bread in the Bread Blanket.

• Fold the blanket over like an envelope, making sure there are no gaps.

• Voila! Now your bread is all tucked up, it will keep warm whilst you eat your meal.

If you are keeping already baked pizza, buttered toast, garlic breads etc. warm in the Bread Blanket. (Breads that are not dry.) Place them into tin foil first and wrap up, this prevents the oils trickling through the Bread Blanket.
